For our home, and the lack of square footage that keeps us cozy and together.
For the brand new baby that we knew we wanted but had no idea how complete we would feel once she was here.
For a boy becoming a brother.
For the fun of watching my children grow into first friends and the privilege of having my own first friends (and still my best) in my brother and sister.
For all the ways that being a parent helps me to appreciate and understand my own parents (seriously you guys, I had no idea).
For Daniel freaking Tiger.
For Jane the Virgin and The Great British Baking Show because mommy needs to RELAX.
For hearing “I love you, Mommy” and “Thanks for dinner” and “Father, son, Holy Spirit” and “NO NO FRANNY LOU!” and “Look at me, Mom!” and “Simeon do it!” from a boy who, one year ago, struggled to put two words together.
FOR SPEECH THERAPISTS.
FOR PHYSICAL THERAPISTS.
For all the therapists who had no idea that by agreeing to work with my son they were agreeing to become his mother’s therapist because sometimes I have lots of questions and lots of feelings and I need to cry while someone watches.
For doctors who are good people (and funny people and friends) and nurses who love my son like their own.
For teachers who see the good in your kid and find creative ways to push him in the right direction. For teachers who don’t give up.
For friends who get it because they’ve been there.
For friends who get it even though they haven’t been there, because they are capable of empathy and possess impressive imaginations.
For a job with lovely coworkers who are hands-down flat-out good people that make me laugh.
For students I love (all 530 of you little stinkers).
For a year of happy surprises.
For Tom– you have no idea how much this family wanted to meet someone like you.
For Annie, Eli, and Lily Grace– friends forever.
For Greg. For Greg. For Greg. For Greg. I love you.
For being able to write this because it’s true.
Hope you folks had a lovely Thanksgiving and you’re snuggled up with the people you love today– or maybe you’re out shopping because you’re nuts. Either way, do your thing. Gobble Gobble.
